THE COCKEY LEGACY
Frome had street gas lighting as early as 1831 supplied by Edward Cockey & Sons and when converted to electricity in 1904, the lamp tops were made by JW Singer & Sons. There are currently 55 lamps, affectionately known as Cockey Lamps, around Frome plus many modern copies. Eighteen of the 55 are already listed with English Heritage and steps have been taken to list the remainder.
